boe Episode 014 - Music for Body and Soul [Ben Boe]
April 03, 2011 08:24 AM PDT
This month the boe podcast will showcase a set of mixes from boe artists that have been broadcast on the legendary B92 Radio and on the excellent Music for Body and Soul Radio Show with Marko Nastic. The last of this three part series is a mix by yours truly. I've done some super deep mixes recently so I thought I'd do something a little warmer and up tempo. I also wanted do do a mix that focused on house sounds from outside the major hotbeds of New York, Detroit and Chicago. The mix features music from the West Coast, UK and Europe on labels such as Retreat, Mantis, Uzuri, Dufflebag and Stickman Records. boe Episode 013 : Music for Body and Soul [Nils Anthes]March 29, 2011 12:09 PM PDT

Hey everyone, it's been a bit of a hiatus on the podcast front recently. Here's a mix that was recently aired on the Make Your Own Sunshine show on My House is Your House. It's run by good mates Alex Rajkovic who I used to run parties with in London and Jay Massive of the awesome Fear of Flying label. It's a super deep show so I thought I'd oblige with a deep and dubby mix containing some past and present faves. http://radio.myhouse-yourhouse.net/ Remote_ - From the Past [Meanwhile]

This month's boe podcast comes from fellow Yorkshireman and techno afficionado Nick Craddock. Nick is a resident DJ at the legendary Sud Electronic nights and label parties and also helps run the promotion side of things behind Uzuri and previously Third Ear. He therefore has excellent taste in music and plays records that delicately tip toe between the forms of house and techno. Nick has produced one the of the best podcasts in the series so far. It's full of energy, melody and rhythm and I hope you enjoy just as much as I do. 1. Stewart Walker ‘Mobilization (Sutekh remix)’ (Tektite)

This month we have a very special and extended podcast from one of boe's favourite deep heads, Dubbyman. Dubbyman has had a sequence of successful releases on the label Deep Explorer run by himself and his brother Above Smoke. More recent excursions onto Yore, Eargasmic and Quintessentials have seen his stock rise to a producer and remixer in demand for his signature deep house sound. I was blown away by his Friday night DJ set at Free Rotation in Wales this year and I'm over the moon to have him contribute to the boe podcast. His extended mix takes in a lot of quality new material seamlessly mixed with timeless pieces from yesteryear. It's full of unreleased tracks from the deep explorer stable and those you'll be hunting doen at discogs the next day. Enjoy... 01. intro

After a brief hiatus, the boe podcast is back and this month's podcast is from me, Ben, owner of boe recordings. For this mix I decided to put together something a little different than the usual house and deep techno. It's quite eclectic and takes in Deep House, Disco, Detroit Techno, and some new Dub Step crossover sounds. It's warm and soulful in places, deep and trippy in others. james duncan - friday night sessions - le systeme

For more than a decade Simoncino has been a deejay and collector of old school 7", 10" and 12" obscurities, mainly Chicago House, Detroit Techno & NY Freestyle. His interest for analog synthesizers and old drum machines has lead him towards the world of music production, debuting his stripped down machine soul music on labels like Mathematics & NoMoreHits. For the seventh episode of the boe podcast, Simoncino has put together a glorious mix of rare house music from the days when electronic music had no genre boundaries. It's just as much as one for the trainspotters as it is for those seeking to hear the honest sounds from heady nights at the early parties in New York and Chicago. Joanna Law - Love Is Not Enouth . Hailing from Finland, Deymare and has been into house/techno music since 1991 from buying his first techno records, going to parties aswell as djing. Nowadays his focus is on music production. Over the last two years Deymare has seen his stock quietly rise through a series of solid digital releases on Stupendous Music, 616 Records, Aqua Azul & Manuscript. More recently his unique sound has found its way onto well respected Morris Audio City Sport that subliminally seems to act as a fertile breeding ground for emerging artists within the house and techno scene. Deymare's sound is soon to be featured on boe's release schedule and is a heady mix of sampled percussion, blissed out chords, subtle vocals and warm grooves. As a DJ he is certainly a mean selector of all things deep as the tracklist for boe Episode 6 proves. So, sit back and relax as boe is very proud to present a real talent for 2010 and something for those crisp late spring nights and low sunsets... Steffen Baldo - Modular behaviour (sin & soul)

Alex grew up listening to the techno of it's hay day in Belgium in the very early ninetees and from first spinning records with Tom Churchill of DIY fame at university he quickly made the move onto the London club scene. Alex headed up the infamous Mass Transit parties with guests such as Agnes, Burnski, Leif & Tom Demac and has worked his 12" magic at Cafe 1001 & The Key (RIP). Alex has a wide range as a DJ; taking in elements of all strains of house alongside undiscovered new music fresher than nun's chuff after a rain storm. boe is proud to present an extended mix from Alex featuring modern dubby tech, squiggly electronic jazz, raw minimal funk and classic house thrown in for good measure. You can catch Alex guesting at Vernon & Da Costa's new label launch at Decadence in Ghent on Friday 30th April. Moodymanc - Gretsch (Michael J. Collins Glitz & Giggles Re-Work) [Kolour]

As DJ and promoter of run, one of the best established and "proper" underground parties in London, Chris has played alongside internationally renowned artists such as Daniel Bell, Patrice Scott, Keith Worthy, Zip, Jay Haze & Andy Vaz. From the start, Chris has introduced a host of cutting edge artists and DJs from across the world such as Cabanne, Jeff Samuel and Someone Else to London. Chris's music background started by playing techno at warehouse and outdoor parties across London in the 90s. His style now bears the fruit of his early addiction to acid and Chicago jack along with a touch of deepness and electronic soul. boe is very proud to present a rare DJ mix from Chris, covering those raw elements of squelchy acid, 909 beats and twisted funk. You can catch Chris at the monthly Run night at Roadtrip in London first Friday of every month. Intro: Soulphiction - Transistor Slugs [Loop] (Sonar Kollektiv)

Half-Swedish/half British artist Leif is based in the UK. In the past few years, Leif has forged a reputation within the underground scene for his trademark sound - a blend of minimal house that encompasses elements of deep dubby tech-house, bleepy minimalism, delicate chord soundscapes and enough chicago-house style shuffle to to keep the dancefloor moving. Leif first came to boe's attention through he first vinyl releases from his co-owned label, Trimsound (alongside Tom Ellis). Their music was a breath of fresh air and was difficult to pigeonhole with elements of dub techno, minimalism and swinging chicago grooves. Since then Leif has features on a long list of top labels such as Moon Harbour, Morris Audio and Fear of Flying. As a DJ, Leif comes into his own utilising a deft selection of underground gems fused with his own productions, also incorporating DJ fx such as looping, delay and reverb to create new sequences and sounds. The mix for boe takes in classics such as the opening remix of Iz and Diz's mouth by Pepe Bradock and modern dub house sounds from Mountain People and Claro Intelecto. 1. Iz & Diz - Mouth (Brad Peep's Remix For Friends) [Classic] 2. Unknown Artist - Mountain007 [Mountain People] 3. Repeat Orchestra - Mango Lassi [A Touch of Class] 4. Leif - Aftereffects [Fear of Flying] 5. Guided Methods - Rugburns [Compu_Sol] 6. Benny Blanko - My Life [Playhouse] 7. Emily - Socks On Loan [Yoshitoshi] 8. Leif - Priority [Forthcoming release] 9. Nils first caught boe's attention earlier this year with his debut ep "lost soul chapter 1" on the label Be Chosen. He has been remixed by the in form Sascha Dive but it was Nils' original works that caught boe's ear. Nils productions are full of low-slung swinging grooves with intelligent tribal percussion, much like his dj sets. He takes on a modern approach to real house music, echoing sounds from mid-ninetees New York as equally as giving a nod to the evolutionary deep house sound of today. Tracklist: 01. Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts - The Secret Is In The Pudding - Oslo
